“Real Friendships ”

Proverb 18:24

What is Friend?

Def.  = Someone whom you know and like.  Someone who supports you.

            World’s View

According to the world a friend is someone who got your back.  Someone who is there when you need them.  However the perverse  side of a  worldly friendship is if you don’t do for me, I’m not going to do for you.

A lot of us don’t talk about it but a worldly friendship is a big competition of who can do better.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t like to hang out with people they perceive to be better than them.  Most of the time they are hating on them.  They’ll say stuff or make statements like “I can’t stand him/her” Why?  “Because s/he thinks he is all that.”

A lot of teens are burned by worldly friends – “I don’t have friends, just associates.”  (Theme Scripture & Ps. 113:1)

If you are Christian, How you treat your friends reveal whether you are a true Christian or a hypocrite.

The Bible tells us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.  I believe that is for 2 reasons.

  1. So that unbeliever won’t pull us out of our position with God.
  2. So you won’t destroy their chance of being saved.

Relationships/Friendship are important to God because His Kingdom or his works is done here on earth thru people.  If those people are impure they will stop the advancement of his kingdom.

“When God wants to bless you he puts a person in your life.”

Principle:  Luke 6:38

Lets Look at an example of a real friendship (I Sam. 18:1-9)
